Al, 81, passed away on January 27, 2026 after battling numerous medical conditions for many years. He was born on January 25, 1945, in Natick, Massachusetts, and the son of Corris E. (Closson) Sittnick.
Al's words "As a young man I worked in auto garages. In 1961 at the age of 16 years old I started driving trucks to Boston every Friday night with a load of lobsters." That started his lifelong career in driving long haul trucking. In 1972 he became his own operator hauling potatoes, blueberries, seafood, produce and lumber. A career that lasted 40 plus years and according to Al between 5-6 million miles were driven. In 1995 while hauling loads for Dysart's he met (in his words) "the love of his life," our mother, Marianne. They dated for a short time and were married on November 22, 1997. They were married 22 years before our mother passed away in July 2020. They resided in Corinth, where they ran Henriksen Truck Brokerage for a few years. Al took pride in keeping the lawn meticulous, with help of Marrianne's green thumb. He kept his trucks, both personal and commercial, in pristine condition. He said he met some great people during his career and stayed in touch with a few after he retired. Even though he and our mother resided in Corinth, his heart was always in Ellsworth at the red house, as he would call it. So, in June he moved back to Ellsworth in an apartment that overlooked the river that he grew up on. Al was a member of Lygonia Lodge #40 A.F. & A.M., Ellsworth, Maine and Anah Shriners.
He is survived by Marianne's children, Scott, Dale, Shellie and their families and a few close cousins.
We want to give special thanks to Cassandra Collins, who helped him tremendously with all his household needs, shopping, etc. and being a great friend to him. Also, thank you to his friends that called him most nights to check on him. Thank you to his cousin, Carol along with her husband, Skip who would make him meals. Also, thank you to his barber and friend, Sid, who had been giving him a flattop haircut for many, many years. They only guy who knew how to give a proper flattop (Al's words). Also, a special thanks to Northern Light Hospice and Comfort Keepers (Ellsworth office), both went above and beyond to make sure he was comfortable.
A gathering will be held from 5pm to 7pm Friday, February 6, 2026, at Pine Grove Crematorium and Remembrance Center, 1347 Hammond St, Bangor, Maine.
