Carol Dunton

Carol Dunton (Noyes) passed peacefully at a Bangor Hospital while surrounded by family on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. She was born February 27, 1949 in Hartland Maine, daughter of Warren & Norma Noyes (Darling)


Carol graduated from Hermon High School in Class of 1967. Following graduation, she married her late husband of 35 years, James Andrew Dunton Jr. Carol worked at Viners Shoe Shop before becoming a mother and a homemaker in 1976. As Carol & Juniors children grew, she returned to hand-sewing shoes for Timberland and then Dexter Shoe. When Dexter Shoe closed, Carol attended classes at Eastern Maine Technical College and graduated in May of 2003 before the loss of her husband in June of 2003. Carol then went onto caring for and transporting grandchildren to various destinations as well as caring for her mother. Among other things, Carol enjoyed cooking family dinners, raising her own garden, growing roses and family gathering for holidays and birthdays. Carol also enjoyed volunteering at and playing bingo at most of all the local bingo halls.


Carol is survived by her sons, Michael and wife, Jennifer Dunton, of Carmel, Matthew and wife, Shannon Dunton, of Pittsfield; daughter Melissa and husband, Donald Piper, of Stetson. Carol, "Nana & Grandma", to her eight grandchildren, TJ and his wife, Ashley, Kaleb, Riley, Samantha, Savannah and fiancée, Justin, Marissa, DJ and fiancée, Kallie and Cody; along with her one great grandson, JJ. Carol had many others that called her "Nana Carol" to include: Malaya, Ahrya, Xavier, Keenan, Madison and Kristian. Carol is also survived by her brother, Warren and wife, Cindy Noyes, of Newport; sister, Pat Tait and partner, Daryl Dawson; brother, Norman and wife, Denise Noyes, of Hampden; sisters-in-law, Kim Noyes of Texas, and Sandra Stormann; brother-in-law, Harry and wife, Mary Dunton, of Carmel. In addition to her parents, Warren & Norma Noyes, Carol was predeceased by her husband, James Dunton Jr.; and brother, Paul Noyes.


A special thank you to all the nurses and CNA staff of the Fifth Floor at St. Joseph's Hospital.


Graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery in Carmel to be announced at a later date. Gifts in Carol's memory may be made to Pine Tree Camp, 114 Pinetree Camp Road, Rome, ME 04963 in Carol's name. Arrangements made by Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
