Bangor, Maine - David J. Smith, 52, passed away from metastatic brain cancer on June 13, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born December 13, 1972 to Barbara B. Smith and the late David S. Smith, David grew up in Winterport, later moving to Bangor.
An avid fisherman, David loved spending time outdoors and had a special fondness for Scraggly Lake. David was a jack-of-all-trades who could fix or build just about anything, and took great pride in his work, especially improvements to the home he shared with his daughter and his mother.
David was an extremely proud father to his daughter, Isabella. They loved to ride around and listen to rock music. They also spent time together going on long walks, enjoying each others company. David was an excellent cook, preparing many memorable meals that they shared.
In addition to his daughter, David is survived by his mother, Barbara Smith; his sister, Ellen (Robert) Tourigny; and their children, Claire and Louis; sister, Jennifer El Alami; and her son, Adam. His extended family includes aunts and uncles, Sally MacFawn, Martha and Karl Beiser, Constance Smith, James and Jacqueline Burnett, and Lynn Tardiff. Cousins include Katherine Goode, Benjamin Smith, Ian MacFawn, Sarah Quinn, Adam MacFawn, Marguerite Beiser, Caleb Smith,Taylor Smith, Natalie Degerstrom, Sara Michaud, Molly Briggs, Jonathan Burnett and Peter Tardiff. He was predeceased by his father, David Scott Smith and uncle, Mark Taylor Smith.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 598 N Main St., Brewer. David's family invites you to join them for a reception at the home of his aunt and uncle, James and Jackie Burnett; 16 Jay's Way, Hampden immediately following the service.
