PALMYRA - David Harry Turner Sr., 73, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle to many passed away peacefully on May 25th, 2025 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine, following a courageous battle with dementia.
David was born in Palmyra, Maine on March 20th, 1952, to Frank H. Turner Sr. and June A. (Nelson) Turner. He would spend the majority of his life there, close to his parents and many of his siblings. He lived a life deeply connected to the outdoors, with a passion for hunting and fishing that was evident to all who knew him. He was quite proud of his status as a member of the "Biggest Bucks in Maine" club. With no shortage of friends at work and in the community, David could always bring a smile to the face of anyone who knew him by offering up a great fishing or hunting story, always delivered in animated fashion. These stories were never known to be exaggerated in any way, shape, or form. He also enjoyed growing gardens and riding motorcycles, appreciating that they could easily get him to his favorite remote spots for finding fish and fiddleheads.
After graduating from Nokomis Regional High in 1969, David would spend time working in construction for Reed & Reed. His steady feet and sense of balance would allow him to take credit for helping to build a number of great bridges throughout the state. In the years that followed, he would spend a large part of his life working in the textiles industry as a spinner at Guilford Industries. An accomplished and skilled woodsman, David spent a great many hours operating his chainsaw and wood splitter. He was always willing and able to lend a helping hand to friends and family.
Despite the challenges posed by dementia in his later years, David's spirit remained vibrant. His eyes would continue to light up in spring and summer at the sight of fishing gear, or a glimpse of blaze orange vests in the fall. He leaves behind a legacy of adventure, love for the outdoors, and dedication to his family. He was a proud and avid supporter of his son David's musical career, always attending his performances and accompanying him to weekly music lessons. That support would continue throughout college and beyond.
David is survived by his son, David Turner Jr. and wife Shawna Trost of Florida, along with their three children, Preston, Julian and Angelique; his brother Ernest and wife Virginia; his brother Frank Jr. and Geraldine; his sister Jane; the mother of his child, Deborah (Fletcher) Turner; his sister-in-law Jo-Ann; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and June; his brothers Stephen, Gene, and Milton; and niece Sarah (Turner) Robinson.
