Dawn M. Allen, 89, of Brewer, Maine, passed away October 23, 2026 following a short illness.

She was the daughter of Ann (Nalle) and Leon Wood of Fulton, New York. She grew up in Fulton and graduated from Fulton High School. She married Richard Holmes in June 1956, but tragically lost him in an industrial accident in April 1957, shortly before the birth of daughter, Beth. They were supported by mother-in-law Marie Crahan, with whom they remained close until her death.

She married James Lybolt in January 1960, and son Eric was born in October. Following her divorce in 1980, Dawn worked various jobs to support herself and family. She proudly completed a business degree in her 40's, and was employed by Onondaga County, New York for over 17 years prior to retiring. She married Donald Allen in 1980; they divorced in 1982.

Dawn was very active in her middle years; she loved aerobics from Jazzercise to step aerobics; walking along the shore of Onondaga Lake; ballroom dancing and western line dancing, complete with fringed jacket and western boots! She was a voracious reader of historical fiction and non-fiction, and loved watching Turner Classic Movies!

She loved her home in Cicero, New York, and was extremely proud of her flower gardens and decorated her home with antiques. Eric lived with her there and subsequently they downsized to an apartment in Baldwinsville, New York; where she lived until Eric's untimely death in 2018. At that time, she moved to Orono, Maine to be near Beth. At the time of her death, she was a resident of the Ellen Leach Home in Brewer.

She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Jean Huard of Fulton, NY; brother, Stephen Wood; husbands, Richard Holmes and James Lybolt; and son, Eric Lybolt.

She leaves behind daughter, Beth (Tom) Sypher; much loved granddaughters, Emily Woiwood (Adam) and Katherine Sphyer; and cherished great-grandchildren, Henry, James and Elizabeth. She is also survived by brother, Joseph Wood and family; nieces, Jill Bruns and Julie Banks; and nephew, Jeff Huard and their families.

Her family would like to thank her caring physicians- Dr. Zachary Smith, Dr. Cosmina Fachiol and Dr. Anas Mansour; the compassionate staff at Stillwater Health Care, Gentiva Hospice and the residents and staff of Ellen Leach Home for their friendship.

Services will be private and held next spring in Fulton, New York; she will be laid to rest beside beloved son, Eric.
