BANGOR - Ernest Charles "Ernie" Atwood, 71, passed away in Bangor on May 4, 2026. He was born in Massachusetts on July 4, 1954. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1972 and proudly served his country for seven years.

Ernie spent his entire adult life as a resident of Bangor. He worked at Eastern Fine Paper for over 25 years until its closing, later working at Irving before finding his true professional home at R.H. Foster. Ernie was tireless in his work ethic, giving 110% every day, at all hours of the day and night. He always put people first, greeting everyone with kindness, courtesy, and respect.

He had a deep passion for exploring all parts of Maine's coastline, loved wildlife and nature, and faithfully fed the local birds and squirrels year-round. Ernie was fiercely loyal, quick to laugh hard, quick to share a tear, and always ready with a warm bear hug. He was consistently the first to volunteer his time and effort to his beloved neighbors on Vernon Street, as well as to his friends and family.

Ernie is survived by his loving wife and partner since 1989, Debora "Debby" (Clark) Atwood.

Further details honoring his life, dear friends, and family will be shared at a celebration of life to be held later this summer in Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed here, at SimpleCremationofMaine.com.
