Eugene Roy Caron, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026 at the Maine Veterans Home surrounded by his family. Gene was born Jan 5, 1944 to Joseph and Alma Caron he was born and raised in Portage Maine. After high school and fours years in the Navy, he returned to Ashland and married his sweetheart, Gloria Fleming. They have been in love for almost 60 years. He and his son built their family home, cutting and peeling each log by hand. As a forester for Seven Islands Land Company for 35 years, Gene retired to become busier than ever. Owner of Little John Logging, plowing logging roads and private consulting. He was a one man show. Before GPS, Gene volunteered to search for and rescue lost hunters in the North Maine Woods. He was the happiest with his family at their woods camp in Norway Bluff or at camp on Portage Lake.

He was a kind, gentle, hard worker, who was well respected in his community. His legacy, integrity and character will be carried on and can be recognized in his son Eugene Buck and granddaughter Lydia Mae.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Danny. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; son, Eugene Buck and wife, Becky, of Glenburn ME; granddaughter, Lydia Mae Guerrette and husband, Bradley, of Westbrook ME; sisters, Carlene Gallagher of Dothan Al, Geraldine Debacco of Weathersfield CT, Terry Caron of Eugene OR, Lynda Caron of Bridgton ME, Barbara Berry (Ronald) of Spring city TN, Cindy Goulet (Darren) of Westfield ME; several special nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, Gene would have wanted you to plant a tree in a special spot in his memory.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Veterans home for their care.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
