Floyd Wilson Melvin Jr (Mel), the husband of the late Betty (Rudge) Melvin of Bangor Maine died peacefully on May 9, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 23, 1931 in Fairfield, Maine, the son of the late Milfred (Nickerson) and Floyd Melvin Sr.

After graduating from Bangor High School, Floyd served his country by joining the Air Force and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska and San Bernardino, California . Floyd worked for many years at Downeast Associates. After retiring he worked part time for J.M. Brown Construction until he was 84 years old. With Betty, his wife of 71 years, Floyd enjoyed spending winters in Cape Canaveral, traveling the Caribbean and spending time at their camp on Green Lake. Floyd had many friends who enjoyed his humor and sense of adventure.

Floyd was a proud Masonic member of St. Andrew's Lodge #83 for almost 50 years, where he served as Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite-Valley of Bangor and Anah Shriners serving in the Provost Guard and Director's Staff.

Floyd was survived by his son Gary Melvin and his wife, Sherry; daughter, Pam Lane; sister-in-laws, Rose Melvin and Polly Rudge; grandchildren, Julian Melvin, Andy Lane and his wife, Victoria, Gary Lane and his wife, Nelson, Ben Lane and fiance Meredith Harrington, Abby Yacubacci and her husband, Corino; as well as 7 great grandchildren, niece Vicki Gonyea and her husband Paul, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Floyd was predeceased by his siblings, Richard Melvin, Walter Melvin, Earnest "Tinker" Melvin, Robert Melvin, Florence Ross, Ruby Driscoll, Virginia Rice and Carolyn Sadlowski.

There will be a private service. Gifts in Floyd's memory may be made to St. Joseph's Hospice P.O Box 403 Bangor, Maine.
