BANGOR - Helen A. Winchell, 73, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, at a local nursing home. She was born January 20, 1953, in Bangor, the daughter of Gilbert and Mary (Crowley) Rogers.

Helen dedicated her career to caring for others. She furthered her education at Husson College and Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, earning her certifications as a CNA, EAA, and CRMA. Helen shared a life of love and shared purpose with her husband, Frank Winchell, who was also a CNA. Together, they celebrated 33 years of marriage until his passing in 2008.

Deeply involved in her community and faith, Helen was a devout member of the Lay Carmelites (Third Order) and the Women's Council of St. Paul the Apostle Parish. She was also actively engaged in the Grange, serving as Ceres for the Bangor Grange and Flora for the Queen City Grange. Outside of her service, Helen enjoyed playing bingo, writing poetry, swimming, and spending quality time with those she held dear.

Helen was known above all for her fierce loyalty and loving heart. Her passion for helping others shone through her extensive volunteer work, particularly with the Brewer Christian Food Cupboard and the Bangor Homeless Shelter.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Frank, Helen was predeceased by her infant son, Edward John Winchell, who was born and passed away on August 12, 1976.

She is survived by her special cousin, Teresa Goody and her family of Orrington; several cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews; her Carmelite Sisters; her Grange Brothers and Sisters; and many close friends, including her special friends, Vikki and Kathy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00a.m., Thursday, August 6, 2026, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St, Bangor, immediately followed by the Rite of Committal in Mt.
