BANGOR - Jane Ellen (Taylor) Cook left us on November 24, 2025, at Stillwater Health Care, Bangor, where she had been lovingly cared for since the death of her husband, Robert N. "Robb" Cook, in July of 2025. This concluded her 10-year journey with dementia. Jane arrived in this world at the Paterson General Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey on January 29, 1942, five minutes after the birth of her twin, John William Taylor Jr. Their proud parents were John William and Alberta (Henderson) Taylor.
Jane grew up in Montclair, New Jersey during the school year and in Forest City, Maine, in the summer. She was a graduate of Montclair High School and Westminster College, in Pennsylvania, were she majored in Education.
After college, Jane moved to Massachusetts and began her teaching career of 30 years, first in Groveland and ending with 26 years in Georgetown, where she taught first, second and fifth grades. She was known as a reading specialist.
On November 26, 1982, Jane married Robb in Marblehead, Massachusetts. They met when Jane attended an adult education class in choral singing Robb taught. After living in North Andover and Amesbury, Massachusetts, they moved to Perry, Maine in the 1990's. Downsizing, they spent the past 8 years in Lubec.
Jane was an exquisite craftswoman, a talented garden designer for her homes, an adventurous cook, and a lover of reading. She became responsible for town gardens in the communities where she lived; started book groups wherever she was, as well as starting and participating in knitting and craft groups in each of her home towns. She was always ready to advocate for causes she believed in.
In addition to her parents and her loving husband, Robb, Jane was predeceased by her cousin, Ernest Laird. She is survived by her twin, John and his wife, Sally and their family in Easton, Maryland; sister, Pam, of Bangor, Maine and her cousins, Michael Thomas, Jerome Thomas, and Patricia Thomas and their spouses and families.
Jane will be interred in the spring of 2026 in Forest City International Cemetery, Forest City, New Brunswick, 1651 Forest City Rd., Forest City, New Brunswick, Canada E6H 1Z5, across the border from the home of her heart, Forest City, Maine. Memorial gifts may be made to the Forest City International Cemetery, 1651 Forest City Road, Forest City NB CANADA E6H 125, or the Woodie Wheaton Land Trust, 2 Grove Road, Forest City Township, ME 04413.
