Janice Roberta Mitchell

Janice Roberta Mitchell passed away peacefully July 25,2026.

She was born in Washburn, Maine, November 29, 1943 to Geraldine and Rueben Boyles.

Janice graduated from Washburn High School in 1961. She then continued her education, graduating from nursing school in 1963, and began her nursing career, spending much of that time at Tall Pines in Belfast, Maine.

In 1963 she married George Mitchell, her husband of 40 years, and built a wonderful family. They also built their lovely dream home and finished the building in 1993.

Janice survived breast cancer and realized her calling of becoming a massage therapist. She graduated from Downeast School of Massage in 1998 and started her business, Touch of Tranquility, with her beloved friend, Mary McCormick. Janice was a natural caregiver, always thinking of others, with a heart full of light and love. She could always make a friend anywhere she went.

Janice is survived by her sister, Persis Moores of Eastport; children, Michael Mitchell and his wife, Shawna of Unity, Micki Peasley and her husband, Chad of Palmyra; her grandchildren, Kelsey McLain and her husband, William of Fairfield, Emily Donovan and her husband, Brendan of Old Town, Evan Braley and his partner, McKinnlee of Bangor, Cheyenne Dyer of Unity and Sierra Kristensen and her husband, Claus of Mississippi; her 9 great grandchildren, plus her many beloved friends and family. She was predeceased by her parents, Rueben Boyles and his wife Geraldine; her brothers, Lorne Boyles and William Boyles; her husband, George Mitchell, and great grandson, Chandler Mackley.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Janice on August 16th, 12pm to 3pm at Eastern Maine Community College, 354 Hogan Rd, Bangor, ME, 04401, Katahdin Hall.
