HOLDEN, MAINE - Joseph M. Bassols, 95, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home on April 30, 2026. Born on August 15, 1930, in Goulds, Florida, he was the son of Joseph and Emma (Costa) Bassols.

Joseph was educated in the public schools of Goulds before traveling north to Maine in 1948. While working on a farm in Gorham, he met the love of his life, Shirley. The couple married and settled in Gorham, where they raised their three children and built a life centered on hard work and devotion.

An accomplished craftsman, Joseph founded and operated his own construction company. His professional legacy lives on through the many homes he built, the spaces he remodeled, and the custom furniture he meticulously designed and crafted. He was widely respected for his unwavering work ethic and the precision he brought to every project.

In 1990, Joseph and Shirley returned to his roots, relocating to Leesburg, Florida, for their retirement years. Throughout his life, Joseph found joy in simple pleasures: bowling, snowmobiling, gardening, and the excitement of stock car races.

Above all, Joseph was a devoted husband and father. He was also known for his kindness and for befriending and supporting those less fortunate.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents; his three sisters; and his beloved wife of 73 years, Shirley. He is survived by his children, Thomas Bassols; Rosemary Kelly and her husband, Cavenaugh; and Michael Bassols and his wife, Leonor. His cherished grandsons, Eric, Dane, and Justin.

A private celebration of Joseph's life will be held by the family at a later date. Condolences to the family may be expressed at SimpleCremationofMaine.com.
