Nancy Saunders

Nancy Louise (Barty) Saunders, 80, of Media, Pennsylvania, and Steuben, Maine, passed away unexpectedly on August 16, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Nancy was born on May 14, 1945, in Walworth County, Wisconsin, to Albert and Amelia (Peyer) Barty. She grew up in Whitewater, Wisconsin, and later attended the University of Chicago. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from SUNY Albany and went on to build a successful private clinical practice, which she continued until her passing.

A beloved member of Swarthmore Quaker Meeting, Nancy was a devoted volunteer with many organizations, including offering music as a hospice volunteer by playing her harp. She also treasured gathering for community dinners with the Downeast Table of Plenty.

Her summer home in Maine was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, and she cherished welcoming family and friends along the beautiful coast.

Nancy will be remembered for her devotion to those she held close, her love of bread making and good food, her joy in gardening, her creativity and industriousness in crafts, her wise counsel, and her loving, compassionate presence.

She is survived by her partner of 12 years, Adrian Aveni; her children, Peter (Tara), Elisabeth (Jim), and Rebecca (Hector); their father, David; her sister, Sandra; her grandchildren, Jamal, Taylor, Chase, Felix, Freddy, Wester, Edison, and Lia; her great-grandchildren; extended family; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Hillel Felder.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18th, at 10:00 AM at Swarthmore Friends Meeting - 12 Whittier Pl. Swarthmore, PA.

In lieu of flowers or contributions, the family invites all who knew Nancy to honor her through quiet reflection and acts of loving service.
