Ovid "Sonny" Dumont

Old Town, Maine, welcomed Ovid "Sonny" Dumont into the world on a warm summer day in 1938. He was the beloved son of Camille and Doris Dumont, who, along with his siblings Louis, Robert, John, Emma, Jimmy, and Dottie, predeceased him. Sonny lived a full and vibrant life, passing away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones, on April 8, 2026.

Sonny's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to his family. He married Joanne Martin on April 9, 1957, embarking on a nearly seven-decade journey filled with joy and partnership. Together, they raised four children-Edward, Ann, Linda McKechnie, and Julie Ireland-who were the light of his life. His legacy continues to blossom through his five grandchildren, Amy Weymouth, Justin McKechnie, Nathan McKechnie, Austin Ireland, and Amanda Ireland, and extends to eight great-grandchildren, each carrying a piece of his heart forward.

A proud veteran, Sonny served in the U.S. Army as military police until an injury led to his honorable discharge. His commitment to duty and service was a testament to his character, a foundation upon which he built a career that spanned construction, paper mills, and local truck driving. He was known as a hardworking man, dedicated to providing for those he loved.

Sonny's spirit was most alive in the great outdoors. His passion for hunting and fishing was matched only by his love for trips up north, where the tranquility of nature brought him peace. He cherished sunny days spent outside with his beloved dog, and his mornings were incomplete without coffee, donuts, and the day's news.

Sonny possessed a rare gift for humor, always ready with a joke to lighten any mood. His happiness was contagious, and his laughter was a cherished sound to those around him. He fiercely loved his family, and his presence was a source of strength and joy.

In his final days, Sonny was tenderly cared for by Beacon Hospice, whose exceptional care and compassion his family deeply appreciates. They extend their heartfelt gratitude for the support provided during this tender time.

A private ceremony will honor Sonny's life and the profound impact he had on those who knew him. Though he has departed from this world, Sonny's spirit remains a guiding light for his family, held forever in their hearts.

His family wishes to express their deep love and remembrance, echoing: "Gone but not forgotten and always in our heart." Sonny Dumont's legacy is one of love, laughter, and an enduring warmth that will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him.
