Steven Lewis McKusick

January 22, 1952 - November 6, 2025

CORINNA - Steven Lewis McKusick, 73, passed away peacefully in his home on November 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving daughters. He fought a courageous battle with cancer with the strength and spirit of a true warrior. His family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the nurses and staff of Beacon Hospice-Lisa, Ashley, and Charla-for their compassionate care during his final days.

Born on January 22, 1952, to Florence (Skillinger) and Irl Lawrence McKusick, Steven grew up on the family farm in Corinna, Maine. He attended Corinna schools, CUA, and Nokomis Regional High School.

Steven is survived by his two daughters, Sherri Lynn McKusick and Toni Marie McKusick, and her fiancé (and Steve's friend) Scott Shealy; his best friend, Rusty Dog. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren and great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren: granddaughter, Alycia Bradley Reed and her husband, Andy Reed, and their daughter, Avery Jay, granddaughter, Amber Null Charters her husband, Taylor Charters, and their daughter, Raina Jeanne, granddaughter, Caitlyn Verreault Bernachez and her husband, Kalib Bernachez, and their son, Rowen Roger; grandsons, Connor Verreault and Daigan Doherty. He is also survived also by his brothers, Millard and Ronald McKusick, and sisters, Kay McKusick Gray, Kerry McKusick and Kathy McKusick.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased his baby sister, Janice Marie; sister, Beatrice McKusick Violet; and his twin brother, Stanley McKusick.

Steve had many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, as well as local boys he treated as his own nephews. They lovingly called his home "Uncle Steve's Cabin."

Steve's childhood on the family farm was filled with love, hard work, and playful activities. He often fondly said, "Mom taught us kids how to play." He and his siblings helped their parents raise sheep for wool to sell and grow crops for the military during World War II.

A skilled woodsman and machinist, Steve was known for his strength, knowledge, and generous heart-some would say, "a heart of gold." He found peace and purpose in the woods, where he learned from his father the value of an honest day's work. Over the last several years, he worked in a local machine shop before driving truck for area construction businesses and farmers. He was very good at everything he did. He loved spending time maintaining his heavy equipment, antique Jeep, and farm tractors. He was happiest when his children and grandchildren, whom he proudly called "my pride and joy," would visit and play on the equipment he loved to take care of. One of his last words to his family was, "I love my children."

He will be remembered by his family and many dear friends for his love, strength, and unwavering spirit. His legacy lives on in their hearts, and he will forever be cherished as a true legend among those who knew and loved him.

There will be a celebration of life in the coming months for family and friends. His remains will be returned to the earth at the McKusick Family Cemetery on Airport Road, Corinna, Maine. Graveside services for family also to be determined. Condolences to the family may be expressed at SimpleCremationofMaine.com.
