Terry D. DeMerchant, dear beloved husband of Bonnie DeMerchant, passed away suddenly on January 19, 2026 after a tragic accident. Born on December 18, 1942 in Fort Fairfield, ME., to parents Ralph DeMerchant and Lillian DeMerchant Masse. Terry was raised by his loving wonderful uncle and aunt, Alan and Laura Wright.
Terry and Bonnie met when she was 11 years old. Their friendship blossomed into something special as they got older. They were married on July 18, 1962. Together, they raised two children daughter, Tera DeMerchant and son, Adam DeMerchant.
Terry spent 35 years of his life working for the telephone company. After retiring, he started his own company, Terry's Electric, as a master electrician at the age of 55 until his untimely death at 83. Terry had an unwavering love for people and a deep desire to help those in need. He was known for always being ready to help.
Terry was a tireless and kind worker. He served as an elder in Milo, Maine congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, striving to live his life in a way that pleased his God, Jehovah. One of his favorite scriptures was Proverbs 27:11, it states "Be wise, my son, and make my heart rejoice..." Whenever he had decisions to make, he endeavored to make choices that would please Jehovah.
Terry also cherished certain scriptures that he shared with others about God's future promises, particularly Psalms 37:10 and 11. Those scriptures tell of the promise of a time the earth will be free from wickedness and filled with peace. He eagerly anticipated that day.
As an electrician, Terry used his skills and volunteered throughout the state to assist with many Kingdom Hall projects. He was always happy and singing while working. Terry loved to sing! Bonnie vividly recalls how he would wake their children in the mornings by singing at the top of his lungs until they finally got up.
Terry loved dogs. For many years he had Mickey, his faithful canine work companion. They were always together and he would pay Mickey in hamburgers. After Mickey died, Terry didn't want to get attached to another dog. After a few years, Winnie, an adorable corgi, came along and slipped right into his heart.
In addition to his parents, Terry was predeceased by his step-father, George Masse; brother, John R. DeMerchant; uncle and aunt, Alan and Laura Wright; infant sister, Joanne. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie DeMerchant; daughter, Tera DeMerchant; son, Adam DeMerchant; sister-in-law, Dolores DeMerchant; nephews, John DeMerchant and Joel DeMerchant; niece, Julia DeMerchant, and their children.
Terry's memorial service will be held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 472 West Main Street, Milo, Maine, on February 28th, 2026 at 1pm. After the memorial service, a gathering will be held at the American Legion building in Brownville Junction, 67 Railroad Ave., Brownville, Maine.
