Thomas J. Starno, 70, passed away February 3, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 25, 1955, in New Haven, CT, Tom graduated from the SCCC/Yale New Haven Hospital Nuclear Medicine Program in 1976.
In 1982, he moved to Maine to establish the Nuclear Cardiology department at EMMC. After 20 years, he transitioned to lead the Nuclear Medicine lab at MCMH. A dual cancer diagnosis forced him to retire in 2019. Tom was deeply involved in the New England Chapter of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, serving in numerous leadership roles.
For many years Tom was well-known as the DJ behind "Starnotes." A lifelong lover of music, he played various stringed instruments alongside his music companion, Matt. He was also an avid golfer who cherished his time on the green with his buddy, Joe, and the local golf community.
Tom is survived by his son, Nicholas (Gaby) and grandson, Boen; daughter, Sierra; sister, Nancy Starno; medical advocate, Carole West. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Barbara Starno; brother, Michael; and sister, Arlene Cassello.
The family extends special thanks to Danielle Fogg NP, Dr. Chodkiewicz, the staff at Lafayette Cancer Institute, and Dr. Soare at Northeast Nephrology.
Celebration of Life: February 11, 2:00-5:00 PM at Bucksport Golf Course, 397 ME-46, Bucksport, ME.
